Privacy Policy — Splinter

Splinter (“the bot”, “we”) is a Discord bot operated for a small set of private Discord servers. This policy explains what data Splinter collects, why, and how to request its removal.

1. Data we collect

Depending on which features you use, Splinter may process:

• Discord identifiers: your user ID, username, and server (guild) ID/channel ID, wherever needed to respond to commands or attribute actions (points, confessions, reminders, etc.).
• Command input: text you provide to slash commands (e.g. /gif search queries, /tod prompts, reminder text, confession text).
• Recent channel messages: the last ~10 messages in a channel may be read as context when Splinter replies to an @mention, so its replies are time- and conversation-aware.
• Economy/game data: a points balance, cooldown timestamps, and trivia/game scores tied to your user ID.
• Confessions: confession text is stored per-server so a moderator can look up a confession by number via /confess-reveal; the poster’s user ID and username are stored alongside the text but are never shown in the public post itself.
• Server configuration: settings like the confession channel, moderator role names, and per-guild feature toggles.

Splinter does not collect payment information, private DMs (unless you DM the bot directly), or data from servers it isn’t in.

2. How data is used

• To operate commands and respond to messages.
• To maintain persistent state across restarts (points, reminders, confessions, game state).
• To let moderators audit server configuration (/servercheck) and review confessions.

We do not sell data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone outside of what’s described here.

3. Third-party services

Some features send your input to external services in order to function:

• Anthropic (Claude) — receives your message text and limited recent-channel context when you @mention the bot, to generate a reply.
• DuckDuckGo / Serper.dev — receive your /gif search query to find matching images.
• Lavalink — processes music playback requests (track titles/URLs), self-hosted, no external submission beyond the source (e.g. YouTube).

Each service’s own privacy policy governs how it handles data once received. We only send what’s needed to fulfill the specific request.

4. Data retention

• Points, confessions, reminders, and server configuration persist until you or a moderator removes them, or until the bot is removed from a server (at which point that server’s guild-scoped data is no longer accessible in normal use, though backups may retain it for a limited time).
• The /gif results cache and rate-limit counters are in-memory only and cleared on every bot restart.

5. Your rights

You can request:

• A copy of the data Splinter holds tied to your user ID.
• Deletion of your points/game data or confession records.

To make a request, contact splinter@papacasper.com. We’ll respond and act within a reasonable time; some data (e.g. confessions already posted publicly, or shared moderation logs) may need moderator involvement to remove.

6. Children’s privacy

Splinter is intended for use consistent with Discord’s Terms of Service, which requires users to be at least the minimum age set by Discord. Splinter does not knowingly target or collect data from anyone below that age beyond what Discord itself already provides to bots in a server.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Splinter’s features change. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date.
